The Pumas look to get back on track

Los Pumas host Pachuca this afternoon in the closing match of the second round of the 2025 Liga MX Apertura Tournament, in a match in which the home team is desperate to secure a good result after their disappointing debut in Torreón last week.
The team coached by Efraín Juárez visited Santos, and the dramatic feature was the debut of young goalkeeper Rodrigo Parra, who conceded three goals, one of them due to his own error. Although the defeat isn't entirely the goalkeeper's fault, the pressure will be high for him if he plays against the Hidalgo team again.
The Tuzos, for their part, had a completely opposite start: they thrashed Rayados del Monterrey 3-0, who didn't reflect their strong performance in the last Club World Cup. The Tuzos, coached by Jaime Lozano, had a remarkable performance and seemed, at times, to be playing great football this season. But this is just the start of the championship; neither the Pumas are that bad, nor is Pachuca a title contender. Both teams know that points at the start are just as vital as those at the end of the tournament, so the university team will come out needing to avoid another defeat and score their first goal of the tournament.
The Tuzos' goal is to be consistent away from home, which is what separates good teams: knowing how to win on the road. And if the Hidalgo team wants to be considered the tournament's top team, they must go all out against the Pumas at Ciudad Universitaria.
Still waiting for the arrival of a new goalkeeper, the university students could count on the reinforcements that were presented this week: Colombian full-back Álvaro Angulo and Ecuadorian midfielder Pedro Vite.
An expected exit
The Toluca board announced the departure of Spanish goalkeeper Pau López, who was never able to establish himself with the Choricero team.
Both parties reached an agreement to terminate the player's contract.
With this departure, the Red Devils opened a new spot for a player not trained in Mexico, while López, with the pass in his possession, could join Betis. — EL UNIVERSAL
