Millonarios' agony ended: they barely drew against Envigado and were mathematically eliminated from the BetPlay League
Millonarios' agony ended this Friday in Envigado, in a very poor performance. At least they didn't lose: they managed a 1-1 draw against a team that was relegated several weeks ago, but that doesn't erase their lamentable performance in the 2025-II BetPlay League.
This Friday's match at the Polideportivo Sur is the best (or worst) summary of what Millonarios' semester was like: a soulless team, with absolute poverty in all lines, in which the only one who tried to make good use of his past, not so much his present, was David Mackalister Silva.
Blue poverty: no scoring opportunities in the first half
In the first half, the Blues only managed one shot on goal. Fortunately for them, Envigado seemed more focused on the Copa BetPlay, where they will play Medellín on Monday for a place in the final. Even so, they did manage a scare, with a goal by Bayron Garcés disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

Besides the poor roster and lack of effort, blunders also made an occasional appearance. And this match was no exception: Jorge Arias tried to clear a ball and it hit a teammate, Stiven Vega. Millonarios were caught out of position and Luis Ángel Díaz capitalized on the mistake with a low, driven shot across goal: 1-0 for Envigado in the 49th minute.
If there wasn't much in the starting lineup, there was even less on the bench. Coach Hernán Torres had already brought on Jorge Cabezas Hurtado at halftime in place of Beckham Castro.
Millonarios drew, with a bit of luck
And then he had to make another forced change because there was another injury, this time to Santiago Giordana, who replaced Leonardo Castro, who didn't travel due to a muscle problem. In his place, Juan Esteban Carvajal returned, who had gone 16 games without playing and hadn't seen any minutes under this manager.
The new signings for the Blues didn't deliver. Edwin 'Shirra' Mosquera left the Parque Estadio without making a single appearance, and the manager opted to replace him with a backup full-back, Sander Navarro. Earlier, Vega was substituted to make way for Neymar Sánchez, another player who was lacking match fitness.
But amidst all that, Millonarios had a bit of luck, which is why they were still on life support. They managed to tie the game in the 77th minute: Carvajal inadvertently put it in, a ball that rebounded off his thigh after a shot by Mackalister that hit an opponent.

There was nothing more to say. Millonarios had been eliminated for several weeks. Now it's mathematically confirmed. They have one match left against Boyacá Chicó in Tunja, on the final matchday, to try and salvage a Copa Sudamericana berth through the overall standings.
