  • Gudaf Tsegay celebrates after winning the mile race with the second-best time in the world: 4:11.88 minutes

Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay, the reigning world 10,000m champion, stole the show at the London meeting, the eleventh stop of the Diamond League, after winning the mile with a time of 4:11.88 minutes, the second-best time of all time in the world.

A time that Tsegay, gold medalist in the 1,500m at the World Championships held last March in the Chinese city of Nanjing, achieved without the need for any pacemakers.

In fact, the African, who dominated the race from start to finish, didn't give the official pacemaker time to take the lead after storming off from the starting gun.

A frenetic performance that allowed the 28-year-old Ethiopian to pass both the 400 meters and the 800 meters below the world record held by Kenyan Faith Kipyegon (4:07.64), which has been in place since 2023.

Gudaf Tsegay appeared to pay the price when he completed the 1,200 meters, facing the pressure of Australian Jessica Hull. But in a show of resilience, he held off the Oceanian attack and ultimately took the win.

A victory that reigning Olympic champion Noah Lyles of the United States couldn't repeat in the 100m final, which looked like a duel between the American and Botswana's Letsile Tebogo. But the victory went to Jamaican Oblique Seville, who demonstrated in London why he held second place in the world rankings this year with a time of 9.83 seconds.

Three hundredths less than the time the Jamaican invested in the British capital (9.86) to defeat Noah Lyles, second with 10.00, and Letsile Tebogo, who could only manage seventh with a time of 10.12 seconds.

The "queen" of speed, Saint Lucian Julien Alfred, clearly won the 200m final with a time of 21.71 seconds, beating Britain's Dina Asher-Smith.
