The iPhone 17 arrives: what to expect from Apple's new gem

The iPhone 17 is about to hit the wallets of users. This Tuesday, September 9th, starting at 7:00 PM in mainland Spain, Apple will unveil its latest high-end phone offering, and will do so, as usual, with four different devices, each with its own capabilities and size: the regular iPhone 17, the new Air model, the Pro, and the Pro Max .
In principle, no major changes are expected compared to previous editions. There will be design tweaks and improvements to the chips, cameras, and battery, but nothing major. Either way, there will be plenty to cover. That's for sure.
According to the leaks, everything indicates that the most notable novelty will be the arrival of the new iPhone 17 Air model, which will be the thinnest in the history of the apple company at 5.5 millimeters thick, which should make it more manageable and also lighter; it remains to be seen how the slimmer effect on the phone's battery life. Apple could mount a silicon-carbon battery, which is denser and more efficient, but that remains to be seen. Whatever the case, the newcomer will be responsible for replacing the Plus version in the family, which will disappear exactly as the mini did a few years ago.
Otherwise, it's the same old familiar features from recent years. The Pro Max will be the most powerful of the bunch and will have the largest screen, at 6.9 inches. The Pro will remain at 6.3 inches, like the base model, while the Air is expected to debut at 6.6 inches. This latter device will also be the first without physical SIM support, or at least that's what analysts expect. There are many doubts about whether this change will be generally implemented in the remaining versions.
Some reports also indicate that the higher-end models (Air, Pro, and Pro Max) could increase to 12GB of RAM compared to the base model's 8GB. This means they'll be able to run more apps and heavy-duty processes simultaneously, offering greater fluidity, power for creative tasks, and longer battery life compared to the base model's 8GB.
Regarding the design, there will be changes to the more capable handsets. All the leaks suggest that the camera modules will become more elongated on the Pro, covering almost the entire top of the phone, and the same will happen on the Air. Instead of glass, they'll be made of aluminum. And the sensors they incorporate will also see a significant jump, especially the ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lenses on the Pro, which could reach 48 MP. The front-facing camera will also gain resolution, reaching 24 MP. Regarding the Air, it is expected to debut with a single 48 MP camera on the back.
The phones will obviously become more powerful. They will incorporate the new A19 and A19 Pro chips. The latter, in principle, should be reserved for the Pro, although it may also come to the Air. Either way, all the devices should be more than enough for the most intensive use. It doesn't matter whether we're talking about apps or video games. They are also expected to finally incorporate the full 120 Hz refresh rate on the screen, which is good news for gamers.
Regarding prices, a slight increase compared to the previous family is expected . Typically, the devices will arrive in Spain with prices around €1,000 for the basic iPhone 17. The Air would be around €1,200 or €1,300. The most expensive, as always, will be the Pro models, which could be purchased at launch for around €1,400 for the most basic memory version, but will surely be around or exceed €2,000 for those with more storage.
The final launch of the phones, based on Apple's performance to date, should take place in about two weeks from the presentation, probably the week of September 22nd. There's no indication that the arrival of the new devices in stores will be delayed this time. In any case, users who want to get their hands on one of the phones will be able to pre-order them starting tonight through the official Apple Store.
In addition to the iPhones, Apple is expected to use the event to unveil three new watches: the Watch Series 11, the SE 3, and the Ultra 3. Also expected is the arrival of the AirPods Pro 3, which, in addition to improvements in sound and noise cancellation, are said to incorporate a new heart rate monitoring system; something that will be especially useful for those who use the devices during their workouts.
