Apple will use AI to extend iPhone battery life

The company is reportedly working to use artificial intelligence to improve one of the biggest frustrations for users: the short battery life of iPhones, according to Bloomberg.
Apple is developing a new AI-powered battery management feature for iOS 19, the upcoming iPhone software update due to be rolled out to developers in June. This tool, according to Bloomberg, will analyze the user's device usage patterns to automatically adjust certain settings and optimize power consumption.
This new tool will be part of the Apple Intelligence platform and will work based on previously collected data on user battery behavior. With this information, the system will be able to predict when to reduce the activity of certain apps or features to extend battery life. Additionally, a new indicator will be added to the lock screen showing the estimated time remaining to fully charge the device.
The supposedly thinner iPhone 17 seems to be the reason Apple has decided to turn to technology to address potential battery leaks. This design change will result in a smaller battery and, therefore, less battery life compared to the standard and Pro models, which could be offset by the use of artificial intelligence. However, this improvement will be available for all iPhones compatible with iOS 19, not just the new model, according to Bloomberg.
Apple announced its commitment to AI, Apple Intelligence, a year ago, which arrived with the iPhone 16 in some regions of the world and recently in Spain. Despite introducing its AI tools somewhat late compared to the competition, the Apple company is having problems with the launch of some of its features, such as Siri.
Even so, during Apple's upcoming developer conference in early June, artificial intelligence and its advancements in this technology will continue to be the focus of its operating system updates. These new features will be released to the public in September with the announcement of the new iPhones.
In addition to the AI features, iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 will bring significant interface redesigns. According to Bloomberg, the changes, known internally as "Solarium" (a reference to glass-enclosed rooms that let in sunlight), will make iPad and Mac more similar in functionality and design.
