Sheinbaum clarifies why she didn't speak to Adán Augusto about the Bermúdez case.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo addressed the doubts that arose after her meeting at the National Palace with Morena coordinators Ricardo Monreal and Adán Augusto López, during which the topic of former Tabasco Security Secretary Hernán Bermúdez Requena, accused of alleged ties to the La Barredora criminal group, was not discussed.
During her morning press conference on August 19, Sheinbaum was asked whether she had spoken with Adán Augusto regarding the investigations against Bermúdez. The president responded firmly:
“No, we talked about the legislative agenda (…) but we didn't touch on any other topics.”
The President emphasized that judicial proceedings are not the responsibility of the Executive Branch, but rather of the Attorney General's Office and the state prosecutor's offices, which in this case correspond to the state of Tabasco.
"The issue here is clear: who conducts the investigations? The prosecutor's offices. Everything must be done with support, not speculation," he emphasized.
Sheinbaum explained that the meeting addressed key initiatives that Morena will promote in Congress:
- Reform of the Amparo Law, as part of the changes to the Judiciary.
- Amendment to the Customs Law.
- Presentation of the Economic Package.
- Electoral reform under discussion with coordinators.
In this context, the President maintained that the conversation focused on legislative strategy and not on personal or judicial controversies.
Despite speculation about a possible change in Morena's coordination in the Senate, Sheinbaum reaffirmed Adán Augusto López's leadership.
Ricardo Monreal, who attended the meeting, emphasized that the President showed respect and support for the former Secretary of the Interior.
“What I observed was an attitude of validation of his work (…) an uncomfortable subject was never raised,” Monreal stated.
The name of Hernán Bermúdez Requena continues to generate debate, as he faces an arrest warrant issued by the Tabasco Prosecutor's Office. However, Sheinbaum was emphatic that this case must be resolved in the judicial sphere, not the political one.
By reiterating that her government will always act "with substance," the president seeks to distance herself from unsubstantiated accusations and reinforce her commitment to the rule of law.
