Scholarships and development projects: China-DR Agreement

The governments of the Dominican Republic and the People's Republic of China signed an economic cooperation agreement to finance development projects in the country, as well as a memorandum of understanding to provide scholarships for the training of Dominican public officials.
This is a non-refundable cooperation agreement for $40 million that the Government of the People's Republic of China will grant to the Dominican Republic to be invested in projects aimed at emergency response and disaster relief.

The second instrument signed stipulates that the Chinese government will award 450 scholarships to Dominican public officials, aimed at strengthening technical and institutional capacities in areas such as agriculture, construction, transportation, renewable energy, and public health.
"The 2025 Human Resources Development Cooperation Plan, which trains Dominican officials in various strategic areas, is an initiative that allows for progress in strengthening institutional capacities and improving the services the State provides to citizens, directly impacting their well-being and quality of life. Meanwhile, the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement constitutes a concrete step toward the implementation of sustainable development and innovation projects ," emphasized Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez.
For his part, the ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the country, Chen Luning, praised the fact that since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than seven years ago, China and the Dominican Republic have "cultivated a relationship based on mutual respect , equality, and reciprocity."
"In a complex international environment, both countries have forged a path of mutual support and mutually beneficial cooperation ," he added.
Both agreements were signed by Álvarez and Luning , who highlighted their importance.
