President Petro responded to a letter from the prosecutor in the Nicolás Petro case denouncing decisions by the Prosecutor's Office that would affect his independence.

President Gustavo Petro reacted this Monday on his X account to the letter sent by prosecutor Lucy Laborde , who is in charge of the judicial process against his son Nicolás Petro , in which she expressed concerns about internal decisions by the Prosecutor's Office of Luz Adriana Camargo that, according to her, would have affected her independence and autonomy in the investigation.
Laborde, who is handling the money laundering and illicit enrichment case, sent a letter to Camargo expressing dissatisfaction with the assignment of a support prosecutor and with meetings scheduled without prior notice.
In the document, revealed by El Colombiano , the prosecutor warned that these measures could "undermine the impartiality required by the Constitution and jurisprudence" and requested clarification regarding the decisions taken.
"There is no evidence of any situation that would require the principles of speed, objectivity, timeliness, effectiveness, and efficiency in the administration of justice to be implemented, as stated in the resolution," he wrote.

He added that his office is not facing a heavy workload that would justify the measure and that these decisions coincide with the timing of a new indictment for two new crimes against the former congressman, scheduled for October 1 in Barranquilla.
The prosecutor also questioned the fact that, despite having been transferred to Barranquilla to focus on the case, she has not been given the necessary logistical support nor has she been allowed to continue with the team of investigators who initiated the investigation alongside prosecutor Mario Burgos, who was removed from the case in 2024.
He also described as irregular a summons he received on September 18 from the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Corruption Directorates, in which, he said, he was asked to explain the facts of the case without prior notice.
What did President Petro say? In his response, the head of state stated that he does not share Laborde's claims about a lack of autonomy. According to Petro, the prosecutor engaged in actions that compromised her impartiality after indicating that classified information about the case allegedly ended up in the hands of opposition presidential candidate and journalist Vicky Dávila.
"Laborde is subservient to the political desires of Victoria Dávila and, therefore, of the opposition. The press has already condemned my son and is pushing for a judicial conviction, thirsty for revenge and eager for her big-money owners to return to govern Colombia to milk it, while they let her children be killed. Laborde obeys those desires," he stated.
In response to this, Dávila also responded on his X account. “Gustavo Francisco Petro, sooner or later it will be proven that what you say about me in your son's case is another lie. I would never act like you or any of your henchmen. I have no criminal past or present,” he wrote.

It should be noted that the president's eldest son is accused of having kept money of allegedly illicit origin, which, according to testimony, was intended for his father's presidential campaign, but which—according to the Prosecutor's Office—ended up being used for personal purposes.
The president also questioned the role of other officials involved in the case, including Mario Burgos, and pointed out that the investigation against Nicolás Petro was being used for electoral purposes . "Laborde is wrong when he asks for the attorney general's autonomy, but he doesn't have it with the opposition," he said.
Petro also accused Burgos of mishandling other cases and insisted that, in his opinion, there was a political motivation behind the case.
“They want my son in prison, even if his behavior doesn't fit the crimes he's accused of. They want revenge on my son for Uribe's imprisonment and sentencing. They want to convict him because they want to convict me. They believe that with my son in prison, the progressive people will once again vote for his executioners, many of whom don't investigate, some of whom are Mafia-friendly prosecutors who erase their names from the files of their murders,” he stated.
President Petro also asserted that, although he had expressed his intention not to comment on Nicolás's case, he could not "remain silent when a prosecutor has turned the case into an opposition feast." "I do not interfere in my son's case, but I have every right to report when due process, the rule of law, is violated in my son's case," he concluded.
