Luis Gilberto Murillo stated that summoning ambassadors for consultations is a "legitimate tool in diplomacy," but warned that its use requires "a vision of the state and avoiding impulsive reactions."
He also expressed his disagreement with the way the government has handled recent episodes of tension with the United States, stating, "I do not agree with the way these situations have been handled," emphasizing that foreign policy should not become a "battlefield," especially in the case of a bilateral relationship "so strategic, with regional and global impact."

Luis Gilberto Murillo made a call
The presidential candidate called for a transformation of the diplomatic situation between the two countries, in order to establish an opportunity to strengthen direct communication between Colombia and the United States.
Therefore, according to Murillo, Colombia must focus on resolving its differences in formal settings, with discretion and prudence , warning that "the costs of a rupture or sustained lack of coordination would be enormous, especially in key areas such as cooperation in security, justice, migration, economy, and trade."
The former foreign minister defended Colombia's right to maintain "an independent and active foreign policy"; however, he emphasized that this must be based on "technical rigor, prudence, and strategic coherence."

"We cannot allow diplomatic tensions to escalate to the point of affecting the daily lives of millions of Colombians in both countries who depend on a relationship that transcends governments, states, and their political cycles," he added.
Finally, Murillo called for sensible action in the face of the crisis: "The moment demands a cool head."
