Former Dana Commissioner José María Ángel admitted for attempted suicide

The former commissioner for post-damage reconstruction, José María Ángel, was rushed to the Llíria hospital (Valencia) on Friday for a suicide attempt, sources from the PSPV-PSOE (Socialist Party of Catalonia) confirmed to EFE.
José María Ángel submitted his irrevocable resignation as Commissioner for Post-Dana Reconstruction on July 31, following the controversy over the qualifications with which he was promoted from civil servant 43 years ago. He then expressed regret at the time for having suffered an "unjustified attack" that had caused him "enormous" personal harm.
Sources from the PSPV-PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) have explained to EFE that the party is monitoring José María Ángel's medical progress and will provide information on the matter this Friday.
The Valencian government has expressed "its wishes for the speedy recovery " of José María Ángel, who was the regional secretary of emergencies under the previous government, and has conveyed "its most sincere gratitude to the health and fire services for their swift action" in transporting the former DANA commissioner to the hospital.
In his resignation letter to the Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel stated that he had "never" falsified any document and had "never" used "any false document to access any position."
He explained that since he took office as Commissioner, there had been "repeated acts of malice" towards him , with the sole objective of "trying to undermine, damage and tarnish" a history of "diligent and transparent" service, since until that appointment his career in the Valencia Provincial Council had been "always respected."
José María Ángel, 68, was mayor of L'Eliana (Valencia) for 18 years, a provincial deputy, a territorial senator, and director of the Valencian Agency for Security and Emergency Response of the Generalitat (Generalitat).
