Danilo Medina calls for national unity in the face of the crisis in Haiti
The Dominican Liberation Party ( PLD ) held a provincial assembly this Saturday at the Ensueño Dajabonero Cultural Center, as part of a series of meetings nationwide, in an activity that included the presence of the former president of the Republic and current president of the PLD , Danilo Medina , along with the secretary general, Johnny Pujols, and local leaders.
During the day, party leaders addressed key issues for the border region, such as economic development , migration , and security. They also discussed strategies for internal party reorganization and strengthening it for future elections.
"The idea is to reconnect with the people , strengthen our structures , and listen to what communities have to say," said Medina, who emphasized the importance of municipalities as a foundation for political action.
For his part, Pujols noted that "Dajabón is key in the northwest region," highlighting its strategic role in the PLD 's plans.
On the international level, Medina addressed the crisis in Haiti and the accusations leveled against the Dominican Republic by some international organizations . In this context, he indicated that "spaces for dialogue between former presidents are being promoted" to establish a unified national stance on the issue.
One of the issues that generated the greatest concern among attendees was the situation of the Ramón Matías Mella Municipal Hospital , whose structure is in advanced deterioration .
Former President Medina stated that, at the end of his term, he had allocated the funds for its completion through the Banco de Reservas (Reserve Bank). However, the project remains unfinished, and patients continue to receive care in a building with serious structural risks.
"It's a latent danger. We're not just talking about infrastructure here, but about human lives. We can't wait for a tragedy to occur before taking action," said community leader Joanny Reynoso, who was present at the event.
In addition, the removal of a truck that had been delivered to a women's association dedicated to artisanal candy production was reported, which has affected their economic livelihood. The situation was raised with national leaders as an example of the difficulties facing the local economy.
The assembly is part of a nationwide tour by the PLD aimed at streamlining its internal structures, assessing the regional situation, and gathering grassroots proposals for inclusion in its political agenda.
