Carlos Carrillo, director of UNGRD, harshly criticized Alfredo Saade for insisting on reelection: "This 'little show' isn't right for him."

The inauguration day of the last legislative session of the Congress of the Republic was shrouded in chaos, shouting, and accusations. President Gustavo Petro's departure left, among other things, a statement of intent that disconcerted many within the Congress and spread to social media.
Chief of Staff Alfredo Saade, amidst boos, shouted "reelection" and was captured on camera. This intention was confirmed by the same official on social media, where he stated that he wants the president to be a candidate again in next year's elections, as Álvaro Uribe and Juan Manuel Santos were, for example.
'You are not an opinion-maker' Saade published a text on X in which he called the opposition "inept" and asserted that the speech he gave at the opening of Congress was "poisonous." In this same brief statement, he reiterated his intention to "re-elect President Petro in 2026."
"The inept opposition was (as always) unable to refute President Gustavo Petro's extraordinary speech; all they know how to do is spew poison," asserts the post, which has nearly a thousand responses on this social network and in which it called on Colombia to "rise up."

This demonstration drew criticism from thousands of social media users who do not see reelection as a democratic mechanism to continue the government's intentions. Among them, the director of the UNGRD, Carlos Carrillo, issued a strong warning to the Chief of Staff.
"You're not just any opinion-maker or tweeter; you're the President's chief of staff," Carrillo told the official, reminding him of his responsibility to the public and democracy.

In the text, in addition to pointing out that he has a great responsibility to defend the Constitution and the law, he asserted that "the President himself has said many times that he is not interested," so Saade's intentions would not be supported by the person at the center of them. He then asserted that the Chief of Staff is "seeking attention" and that, if this continues, he suggested that he leave the government.
On the other hand, he told Saade: "Don't forget that those you call inept today were the ones who supported you in your political adventures: Radical Change and the Democratic Center," recalling his time in the country's political right.

Finally, he described the official's actions as a "little show" and urged restraint amid the Colombian political debate. Carillo's comment has been described as "coherent" by social media users.
President Gustavo Petro has not commented on his Chief of Staff's intentions, but on other occasions, he has stated that he has no intention of seeking reelection in the upcoming elections. Furthermore, his party, the Historic Pact, is already positioning some candidates for next year's elections, which, in addition to being unconstitutional, would make the possibility of reelection much more remote.
