Axel Kicillof described the Libertarian defeat as a "shock" and explained why Milei lost the election.

The governor of the province of Buenos Aires, Axel Kicillof , assessed the harsh defeat of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) in the legislative elections in Buenos Aires province. The provincial leader described this electoral setback as a " shock " for the Libertarians, in addition to criticizing their economic model and highlighting the results of Peronism during an interview with C5N.
The leader described Fuerza Patria 's victory as "shocking" and "very impressive," noting that it was the first time in two decades that Peronism had won a midterm election. " Peronism hasn't won a midterm election in 20 years , and it was by a staggering margin. Even media outlets not aligned with us were talking about a landslide ," he asserted.
Axel Kicillof was categorical in stating that "what failed was the economic policy, because the results were the destruction of jobs and production." In this regard, he criticized Milei's campaign strategy , which he described as based on "insults and aggression," and maintained that the President lacks a grasp of the situation facing the neighborhoods of Conurbano as a result of the austerity measures.
"The President put all his chips on the province of Buenos Aires. He was provocative, he disdained the people of Buenos Aires, he defunded the province ... And that's how he expected to win the election? They lost in more than 100 districts," the Peronist leader emphasized. For the governor, the election became "a kind of plebiscite" on national administration. He even joked with a metaphor that echoed the official slogan: "He said he was going to paint the province purple, but it seems there was no paint that day. The province ended up blue."
On the other hand, he warned that Milei should heed the message from the ballot boxes as a wake-up call. "People don't agree. The President will have to reconsider because the Argentine people have told him enough," he said.
The president also dedicated a paragraph to the International Monetary Fund, which he blamed for supporting Milei's economic plan: "The IMF has a responsible role in Milei's government. It lent them an additional $20 billion to support the exchange rate, and they screwed it all over the place," he said.
