According to the United States Space Agency (NASA), the Sturgeon Moon is the full moon of August. It's so named because Native Americans used to catch sturgeon in abundance during this time of year. However, according to NASA, it also goes by other names, such as the Green Corn Moon, the Grain Moon, or the Red Moon, depending on local traditions.

NASA explained that this full moon may appear larger and more orange. "This is not because it's closer, but because of an optical effect called the 'moon illusion,' and the way the atmosphere scatters light (a phenomenon similar to that of reddish sunsets)," NASA explained.
NASA added that the full moon will arrive just a few days before the peak of the famous Perseid meteor shower (August 12 and 13). However, its brightness will make it difficult to see the faintest meteors, though you might be lucky and spot a bright fireball streaking across the sky.
