Sustainability Forum with a Female Voice: Women driving responsible business models
Women leading the fight against climate change and environmental protection was the opening talk of the Sustainability with a Female Voice forum, organized by EL TIEMPO Casa Editorial on Wednesday, April 30.
The first guest was Marce the Recycler, the famous environmental content creator with thousands of followers on social media. She spoke with Aura Saavedra, Digital and Premium Content Editor at EL TIEMPO. With her friendliness, she shared with the audience the evolution of her work, how it has impacted thousands of recycling families, and the importance of what she conveys in her content.
"People don't understand what happens to the trash when they throw away paper. If we could go further, people should think about who's going to open that bag," says Marce, who in her videos explains how waste is sorted and the importance of people doing so in their homes and public places.
"In this country, there are more than 50,000 families who make a living from recycling," says Marce, who began sharing her videos in 2019 and now has a foundation to support this sector, which is essential for environmental conservation.
Through songs, with lyrics she herself has adapted from famous songs by Karol G and Shakira, Marce the Recycler connects with her followers to explain how to properly separate waste.
"The most important thing is to be good influencers for children," she comments. "In Colombia, I feel like people have lost hope in the environmental field, but they still maintain it by knowing a little more about who recycles."
Specifically, they are referred to as 'recyclers,' 60 percent of whom in Colombia are women.
The Sustainability with a Female Voice forum brings together prominent women from large companies, social leaders, influencers, and experts from different fields, not only to give them a voice, but also to showcase initiatives that promote inclusion and sustainability, with women at the forefront.
Women and sustainable economy
The second part of the forum, led by EL TIEMPO's general director, Andrés Mompotes, focused on female leadership in the transition toward a sustainable and transformative economy.
The guests in this section were Susana Muhamad, former Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development; Andrea Mosquera, General Director of Commercial Affairs at ColCam (SGS); Leidy Viviana Mantilla Mendoza, Cafam Arauca Woman of the Year 2025; Luz Ángela Castro, CEO of Ocesa; and Daniela Carvajalino, CEO and founder of The Biz Nation. Each of them shared their experiences from their political, entertainment, environmental, and social perspectives.
"Women have been fundamental. They were the ones who unlocked the agenda in various ministries, in the environment, in Mines and Energy, and in Transportation... everything was achieved with their presence. We must reflect on the fact that women's empowerment in politics is present at all levels, even in community processes," explains former minister Susana Muhamad, who was key in organizing the last COP16, held last year in Cali.
