Russia and the US agree to continue joint operation of the ISS until 2028.

Russia and the United States have agreed to continue joint operation of the International Space Station (ISS) until 2028 , the head of Roscosmos , the Russian space agency, Dmitry Bakanov , said today after meeting with the acting director of NASA , Sean Duffy , in Cape Canaveral (USA).
"We agreed that we will jointly operate the ISS until 2028 and that its deorbiting will be carried out until 2030, inclusive," Bakanov told a group of Russian journalists, according to the official RIA Novosti news agency.
According to the head of Roscosmos, Duffy "gave his subordinates the green light for direct technical talks between Roscosmos and NASA on joint projects."
"For the next meeting, in November-December, we will prepare a comprehensive agenda and work through it at a technical level to make specific decisions," Bakanov added.
At the same time, he admitted that these decisions "will also depend on the geopolitical situation and the prevailing sentiments in bilateral relations."
"Today it was important to obtain the NASA director's approval for his subordinates to continue interacting. Since this was the first meeting, we didn't want contacts to be interrupted," Bakanov said.

He added that talking about implementing new global joint projects with NASA "would probably be a bit ambitious."
The day before meeting with Duffy, Bakanov met with the crew of NASA's SpaceX Crew 11 mission to the ISS , whose launch into space aboard a Dragon spacecraft was scheduled for Thursday but was canceled due to weather.
Crew-11, one of whose four members is Russian cosmonaut Oleg Platonov, will remain in the orbital laboratory for seven months, during which time they will conduct various scientific experiments.
Space cooperation is the only area of Russian-US relations that has not been affected by the war in Ukraine.
