Miguel Reyes Sánchez wins international award

Dominican historian and diplomat Miguel Reyes Sánchez won the 2025 "Francisco de Vitoria" International Historical Research Prize for his work "The Consular Corps and its Presence in the Dominican Republic."
The distinction was obtained in the within the framework of the Madrid Book Fair, at the Casino Gran Vía in Madrid, which was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Spain , members of the Royal Academy of History, Spanish government authorities, and writers from around the world.
Reyes Sánchez received the award from Dr. Feliciano Barrios Pintado , secretary of the Royal Academy of History of Spain , who highlighted "the magnificent international historical contribution that the work represents."
Meanwhile, Spanish jurist Pedro González Trevijano , member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation and former president of the Constitutional Court of Spain, stated that:
"We are in the presence of an excellent book , exquisitely edited. I have seen very few books in my life as magnificently edited as this one. Marvelous works are produced here in Spain , but this book rivals them in its excellence and the high quality of its content."
The jury's verdict was announced at the event, highlighting the quality of the work , which they considered to be a significant contribution to the understanding of the consular institution , from its origins and throughout the various civilizations of humanity.
It was also highlighted that it is "backed by rigorous research , written in an elegant style and with great literary quality, and illustrated with extraordinary richness and impeccable printing, making it a must-read compendium for scholars of diplomatic history."
The award-winning work was the product of three years of arduous research by academic and jurist Miguel Reyes Sánchez , commissioned by the Consular Corps accredited in the Dominican Republic on the occasion of its 70th anniversary .
The author thought it appropriate to recount the history of the consular institution from the entity's origins to the present day, adding the discursive thread to the incidents that occurred in Santo Domingo with a consular presence of the four dominant empires in the Columbian and pre-independence era:
