Mattel's luxury rocking chair under scrutiny over link to baby deaths: company demands refund
Since 2019, a Mattel baby rocking chair has been gradually recalled after being linked to the deaths of several children as part of an ongoing safety campaign.
The company announced its third return and refund notice for the rocking chair in 2025, following reports of more deaths in the United States due to the product's use.

According to the statement, the incidents occurred "after the infants rolled from a back to a prone or side position while restrained." This situation represented a potential safety risk, prompting the company to reactivate its collection and refund plan to prevent further tragedies.
The brand called on consumers who still have the product to return it and receive a refund , reinforcing its commitment to the safety of children.
The product safety campaign reportedly began in April 2019, when the international brand announced the recall of the rocking chair designed for children under three months old.

“On April 12, 2019, at the time the original recall was announced, more than 30 infant deaths were reported in Rock 'n Play Sleepers after the infants rolled onto their backs or sides while unrestrained or under other circumstances,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a statement.
However, these would not be the only deaths related to the use of this product. The deaths of approximately 70 more children have also been reported, allegedly due to the use of the Fisher-Price product after its recall.
In 2011, the rocking chair was banned from sale in Australia due to accidents associated with its use. However, in Colombia, as of 2022, it continued to be sold.
