From Queen Letizia to Begoña Gómez and Manuela Villena, the dresses for a summer night in Seville

King Felipe and Queen Letizia traveled to Seville this Sunday to preside over the opening dinner of the United Nations ' Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development . The event, held at the Royal Alcázar, undoubtedly provided the perfect setting for a summer evening where guests showed off their finest attire—and defended it—despite the high summer temperatures.
The Queen of Spain brought out a very special Carolina Herrera design for the event. It's a blue dress with floral appliqués and a V-neckline, which she previously wore six years ago , in 2019, during her state visit to Argentina for dinner in Buenos Aires with then-President Mauricio Macri and his wife, Juliana Awada. With a cinched waist and wide straps, Queen Letizia opted for gold accessories with high-heeled pumps and a clutch.

From Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his wife, Begoña Gómez , to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen , to Juanma Moreno Bonilla , President of the Andalusian Regional Government, and his wife, Manuela Villena, were some of the guests who accompanied the King and Queen. Special mention should be made of some of the guests, whose outfits certainly did not go unnoticed.

The wife of the President of the Andalusian Regional Government stole all the attention with an elegant "made in Spain" design. It's one of the dresses from the collaboration between Inés Domecq and Roberto Diz . The design, called Persefone, is one of the most acclaimed from the capsule collection, a limited-edition dress that is part of the "Cosmos Drop II" line and can be purchased on the IQ Collection website for €395 (currently reduced to €316). In navy blue, it features volumes on the sides finished with sheer panels, while the bodice features striking gold buttons on the front.

For her part, Begoña Gómez also opted for Spanish design with a long dress by Teresa Helbig , one of the brands she often turns to for special occasions. From the 'Wet Ballet' collection, it's a long-sleeved dress in pastel blue. Despite being an ideal design that stands out for the quality of its fabrics and impeccable craftsmanship, several experts were quick to comment on some of the president's wife's styling mistakes.
While it's probably not the most appropriate choice for Seville at this time of year, protocol dictates that if Queen Letizia doesn't wear a long dress, the rest of the guests shouldn't either. "The dress code for the event, as you can see from the Queen's chosen outfit, is cocktail dress (a dress below the knee or even trousers)," explains stylist Anitta Ruiz on her social media. "While dress code is a recommendation and never an obligation, Begoña's choice looks odd," the expert concludes.
