There are 31 cases of screwworm myiasis in humans: Ssa

The Ministry of Health (Ssa) reported that 31 cases of screwworm myiasis (SWM) have been recorded in humans in southern Mexico. Of these cases, 29 are in Chiapas and two in Campeche, according to the General Directorate of Epidemiology.
Epidemiological bulletin number 28, covering the period from July 7 to 12, 2025, details that in Chiapas, there were nine GBG infections in women and 20 in men; in the state of Campeche, there was one case in a woman and one in a man, all between 86 and 17 years old.
You may be interested: Harfuch confirms that Bermúdez was under investigation since 2024The report states that, in Chiapas, there were two cases in Mapastepec; seven in Tapachula; two in Escuintla; two in Villa Comaltitlán; three in Huixtla; one in Pichucalco; two in Tonalá; two in Ocosingo; three in Chilón; one in Mazatán; one in Yajalón; one in Huehuetán; one in Suchiate; and one in Chamula.
In Campeche, there is one case in Ciudad del Carmen and one in Candelaria.
Most infections occurred on the head, as well as on the neck, trunk, nose, oral cavities, legs, arms, genitals, and uterus.
Of the total number of patients, three remain hospitalized; the others have been discharged due to improvement, are discharged and in critical condition, and are in stable outpatient treatment.
