Getting a good night's sleep isn't a luxury, but rather a physiological and mental necessity that directly impacts our mood, immune system, and quality of life . Insomnia , beyond fatigue, can disrupt emotions , cause irritability , and even increase the risk of physical illness , according to mental health specialists.
Nighttime sleep has become a priority subject of analysis in the field of psychiatry due to its neurological and immunological implications. Continued lack of sleep can cause imbalances in key areas of the brain, especially those related to emotional regulation, which affects daily behavior and overall well-being.

In one of his informative videos on TikTok, psychiatrist Fernando Mora explains that “ rest is essential on an emotional and physical level .” During insomnia, certain brain areas become hyperactive, especially those related to emotional management. This, according to the specialist, causes us to “ be more irritable the next day, more prone to crying, and more prone to jumping up and down .”
Sleep deprivation also has physical consequences beyond fatigue. “ Not only are we more tired when we don't sleep well , but chronic insomnia has been scientifically proven to worsen the immune system ,” says the psychiatrist. This defensive dysfunction translates into a greater susceptibility to infections and decreased effectiveness of vaccines.
@doctormora_ 😴 Sleep is not a luxury, it's a necessity. Insomnia not only makes you tired: 🧠 It makes you more irritable and emotionally sensitive... 🛡️ And it also weakens your immune system: fewer defenses, more infections, worse response to vaccines. 👉 Rest is key to your Immunofitness. Don't negotiate it. Prioritize it. Take care of yourself. #mentalhealth #rest #insomnia #immunity #emotions #psychiatry #immunofitness ♬ original sound - @doctormora_
“ Sleep is non-negotiable in our daily lives ,” concludes Fernando Mora in his video. The message is clear: prioritizing rest is a form of self-care that goes beyond simple performance. Getting enough sleep protects both the mind and body from changes that can manifest in the short and long term.
