Two explosions reported on Cerrejón railway line in La Guajira

On Monday night , two explosive attacks were reported, hitting the railway line at the Cerrejón coal complex in the department of La Guajira . According to police, the explosions occurred at kilometers 67 and 40 , both located on the strip connecting the mine to Puerto Bolívar, a key route for transporting coal for export.
Residents of indigenous communities near the affected areas (Cuatro Vías, Maicao, and near the old Uribia toll booth) alerted authorities after hearing the violent explosions, which also caused damage to coal transport equipment, according to information from the radio station 'Blu Radio'.

Following the incident, the area was immediately and completely militarized, reflecting the seriousness perceived by the authorities . After receiving Cerrejón's report, the police began the relevant investigation.

The territory in question is known for the presence of illegal armed groups such as the ELN and the Sierra Conquerors Self-Defense Forces , although no organization has so far claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Cerrejón maintains that there were no injuries after the explosions: " The company regrets these acts of violence, which endanger the lives of workers and communities, affect operations, and generate negative consequences for the development of the department ."
They added: " Cerrejón urgently calls on the competent authorities to strengthen the necessary actions to prevent a recurrence of these events. It is essential to prevent the violence from escalating, as it threatens the security, peace, and stability of the population, as well as the development of La Guajira and the country ."
