The government will eliminate import tariffs on cell phones , which currently stand at 16%. This measure was announced by presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni and will take effect next week. In this way, the Libertarian administration will continue its proposal to lower taxes and open up imports.

The tax reduction on imported cell phones will be implemented in two stages: first, it will be reduced to 8% , effective immediately upon publication of the DNU. Then, starting January 15, 2026, it will drop to 0%. Shortly after the conference, Adorni announced on social media that tariffs on the import of consoles such as the PlayStation and Xbox will also be reduced from 35% to 20%.

Additionally, domestic taxes on imported cell phones, televisions, and air conditioners will be reduced , with the tax burden going from 19% to 9.5%. And for those produced in Tierra del Fuego, taxes will be reduced from 9.5% to 0%. "Today, a cell phone in Argentina costs twice as much as in Brazil and the United States.
