Tax-free electric cars: The government is launching a quota of 50,000 units at an affordable price.

In a move aimed at revolutionizing the Argentine automotive market, the Customs Revenue and Control Agency (ARCA) officially enabled the tariff-free import regime for electric, hybrid, and hydrogen vehicles , under a scheme that promises a significant impact on both consumers and the commercial sector.

Through General Resolution 5691/2025 , published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette , the agency regulated the operating procedures for accessing the benefits contemplated in Decree 49/2025 , promoted jointly with the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce .

The most significant benefit is the elimination of the 35% Extra-Zone Import Duty (DIE) on automobiles with an FOB (Free On Board) value of less than US$16,000 . This significantly reduces the cost of acquiring sustainable models, making them available to a broader segment of the population.

The regime will last five years and provides an annual quota of up to 50,000 units , equivalent to 20% of annual light vehicle sales in Argentina. The quota will be distributed equitably: 25,000 vehicles will be allocated to companies with domestic production, while the remaining 25,000 units will be assigned to authorized importers and dealers .

One of the key aspects is that the allocation will be based on the order of nationalization and price , meaning those who offer the most competitive price and complete the process first will have priority. The entire process must be carried out through the Argentine Foreign Trade Single Window (VUCEA) and the Remote Procedures (TAD) digital system.

ARCA emphasized that this initiative not only aims to modernize the vehicle fleet and reduce polluting emissions, but also to stimulate competition, open the market to new technologies, and position the country on the path to sustainable mobility .

The regulations include a detailed user manual and technical procedures accessible from the agency's website, which seeks to provide greater transparency and speed to the process.
