President Petro's most tweeted topics in his third year in office

President Gustavo Petro's X account currently has nearly 8.2 million followers. The platform has become one of the president's main communication channels, both for maintaining a constant connection with his former voters and for sharing his stance on various issues on the public agenda.

In this context, the international consulting firm Shift Porter Novelli, specializing in corporate communications and data-driven services, conducted a study analyzing the impact these interactions and use have had on the positive perception of the head of state after three years at the helm of the Casa de Nariño.
The research considered a sample of 56.3 million interactions , including messages, retweets, mentions, and comments related to President Petro.
Main findingsAccording to the report, from August 1, 2024, to July 31, 2025 (his third year in office), the Colombian president's official account generated 12.9 million searches.
During that period, negative sentiment toward their profile reached 42.9% , slightly decreasing from 45.3% the previous year.
Meanwhile, his overall approval rating is 6.5%. This reflects a continued decline compared to the 7.8% in his second year and the 15.9% he obtained in his first 12 months as Colombian president.
Regarding the number of followers, the report revealed that the @petrogustavo account closed this period, increasing from 7.6 million last year to 8.2 million currently.

The most tweetedThe consulting firm analyzed the most relevant topics during the analysis period, taking into account their scope, that is, the number of users impacted.
In first place in the ranking, with a reach of 461,000 users , is the diplomatic crisis between Colombia and the United States, which occurred at the end of January 2025. The situation was triggered by tweets between President Petro and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, after the Colombian president rejected two military planes with compatriots deported from the United States.
The second most tweeted topic is associated with the narrative suggesting a possible coup d'état. Related messages sparked debate about the country's democratic institutions, generating an estimated reach of 107,000 users.
The podium closes with the "political hurricane" generated on April 23, 2025, when former Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva made accusations against President Petro. The digital repercussions of this event reached an audience of 99.9 thousand people and fueled multiple disputes between government detractors and supporters.

International perceptionThe report presented a comparison between the Colombian head of state's account and the official accounts of the presidents of the United States (Donald Trump), Argentina (Javier Milei), and El Salvador (Nayib Bukele).
The results showed that, of the four leaders, the negative perception toward Petro is the highest, at 42.9%. He is followed by Bukele, at 34.7%; Milei, at 30%; and Trump, at 16.6%.
On the other side of the coin, positive sentiment toward the Colombian president has the lowest percentage (6.5%), followed by Milei (12%), Bukele (15.8%) and Trump (26.8%).
