The National Fund for Social Benefits for Teachers (FOMAG) is implementing a control and improvement strategy to strengthen the system for delivering medications to affiliated teachers and their families .

Through technical visits and citizen oversight in different regions of the country, the organization has sought to correct logistical failures, dispensing delays, and difficulties in accessing treatments.

"We are detecting and resolving problems directly in the field, with the support of oversight bodies. The goal is to improve the user experience and ensure timely access to treatments ," said Aldo Cadena, vice president of Fomag.

Follow-up actions have initially focused on Bogotá and Soacha, where 14 inspection visits have been made to pharmaceutical dispensing points. These visits have addressed situations related to delayed delivery of prescriptions, scheduling errors, and logistical obstacles , the agency explained.

According to the director, " these technical visits will be maintained permanently as part of the monitoring model for the new teacher health system ." This strategy seeks to ensure continuous and direct oversight of the service's operation, with the participation of citizen stakeholders who can verify compliance with care standards.

In the context of the new teacher health model, which has been in operation for 13 months, Fomag has recorded progress in the supply of medications. Between June 2024 and May 2025, 347 million units of medications were delivered nationwide , with a turnover exceeding $707.84 billion.

The volume of deliveries has represented an operational challenge in terms of coverage, response times, and inventory availability. Furthermore, according to the organization, operational control is part of the adjustments implemented following the implementation of the new health model for teachers , which replaced the previous insurance scheme with a system based on integrated delivery networks.

Medications

Fomag has conducted 14 technical visits in Bogotá and Soacha to correct logistical failures in the delivery of medicines.

This change involved reorganizing processes in primary care, patient referrals, and medication dispensing. According to Fomag, the goal is to strengthen pharmaceutical care as an integral part of the new health system , in which the effective and timely delivery of medications is an essential component of treatment continuity.

As the monitoring interventions progress, the agency will continue deploying its technical teams in different regions to ensure adequate care conditions for teachers. " We will remain present in the territories, evaluating compliance with commitments and listening directly to users ," Cadena assured.
