Two afternoons of Morante as the basis of the Salamanca fair
The cheers for Morante still ring out at La Glorieta. On June 14, the cigar maker cut the tail of a good Domingo Hernández bull in a performance so extraordinary that the bullfighter himself considers it one of his best works, if not his best. And it surely is. Although, fortunately, he will have two afternoons in September to repeat the feat, or improve on it, if that's possible.
On September 19, he will fight the García Jiménez bullfight, alongside Manzanares and Marco Pérez, whose debut in his homeland was that exhilarating afternoon for the maestro, and in which, far from being disheartened, the young matador also came out on top in his first season as a bullfighter. Two days later, after the bullfight on horseback with Ventura as the main attraction (in a bullring steeped in Hermosismo tradition), which also includes Guillermo, José Antonio will return to this ring, this time to kill the bullfight in the local cattle competition, alongside Talavante and Borja Jiménez, whom they consider a Salamanca native.
The fair will open with a mixed lineup of female bullfighters: Lea Vicens will be the rejoneadora (horsewoman), while novilleras Raquel Martín and Olga Casado will face off against young bulls from Montalvo. This will take place on Friday, September 12. On Saturday, El Vellosino will fight a herd of bulls for Damián Castaño, Diego San Román—it's a pleasure to see companies remembering him after his outstanding confirmation—and Ismael Martín.
That first weekend closes with a bang, as it will be Roca Rey's turn, who, along with Emilio de Justo and Juan Ortega—who will be making his debut in the bullring—will fight the Garcigrande bullfight.
