They say a timely retirement is a victory. Mallorcan designer Miguel Adrover re-emerges in the new Filmin documentary, co-produced by Antón Álvarez (also known as C. Tangana ), which will premiere at the Atlàntida Film Fest in Mallorca this Friday, August 1. The film explores the career of the designer who conquered New York in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and retired from the spotlight in 2004.
Adrover's story before and after disappearing from the media spotlight will be the focus of The Designer Is Dead . The national streaming platform Filmin has presented this new documentary feature as part of its catalog of original productions, with its world premiere at the Atlàntida Film Fest, precisely in the homeland of the subject.

The production is handled by Little Spain, the audiovisual company founded by C. Tangana, Santos Bacana and Cristina Trenas, which after the documentary La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés , takes the leap with this feature film directed by an external director: the Spanish filmmaker based in the United States, Gonzalo Hergueta .
Boom and bust? The film reconstructs the meteoric rise and subsequent fall of the designer, who was praised by Anna Wintour and awarded the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America prize. With a radical style and a political vision that clashed with the establishment, Adrover went from being a central figure of the New York avant-garde to disappearing after his controversial Utopia show. The documentary draws on extensive archival work and essential testimonies such as those of Jennefer Hoffman and Robin Givhan, Pulitzer Prize winner, to offer an intimate and complex portrait of a designer who continues to be vindicated by names such as Marc Jacobs, A$AP Rocky and Chloë Sevigny .
More than a biographical journey, The Designer Is Dead offers a reflection on the fashion system, the margins of success, and the possibility of creating from a dissident position. The designer, who rejected collaboration proposals with figures like Kanye West , represents a way of understanding fashion and creativity that moves away from the spectacle and closer to critical thinking .

The film also marks an important step for Little Spain, which, following the Goya for Yerai Cortés's Flamenco Guitar, is now focusing on another overlooked but essential figure for understanding the fissures in the global creative system. The premiere of The Designer Is Dead not only pays tribute to the Mallorcan designer in his homeland but also puts him back on the cultural map, offering a window into the legacy of an artist as brilliant as he is elusive. In Mallorca , the film will be presented as part of a special gala honoring the designer . After its festival run, it will hit Spanish theaters in the coming months.
