Ten horror movies that will make your blood run cold this summer

Horror fans rejoice. A wave of dread is flooding the summer movie lineup. At the end of June, Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later and Gerard Johnstone's M3GAN 2.0 were released. Last week, the chilling Give It Back to Me landed on the billboard and is generating a lot of buzz. And now, new titles are arriving, including two top-notch re-releases: Community by Álex de la Iglesia and Jaws , the first summer blockbuster that catapulted Steven Spielberg to fame 50 years ago. Here are ten highlights of the season.
August 8th WeaponsActor, screenwriter, and director Zach Cregger caught the attention of audiences and critics alike with Barbarian (2022), his directorial debut. With a simple premise about an unexpected guest, he demonstrated a narrative talent for taking viewers on an absolutely perverse journey. The film's success has allowed the American director to now release, to great anticipation, Weapons, one of the best genre films of 2025. A child's voice introduces the audience to a real-life case that occurred in his town, when 17 of the 18 students in the same elementary school class left their homes at 2:17 a.m. and disappeared into the darkness. The children's parents blame the teacher, played by Julia Garner, for hiding information. Is she the witch she claims to be, or is she just another victim? Cregger manages to captivate audiences with an entertaining piece laced with mystery, plenty of dark humor, and its fair share of scares and gore. Josh Brolin plays the father of one of the missing children, and Amy Madigan takes on a rather bizarre character.
August 1st Give it back to meFrom Australia, the Philippou brothers burst onto the scene again after Talk to Me (2022) with a performance as shocking as it is sadistic and risky, starring an immense Sally Hawkins in a role as a woman marked by grief and capable of the most gruesome acts. Released on August 1st, the film was among the most watched films of last weekend's billboards. An uncomfortable story about grief with harsh images that remain etched in the mind. You have been warned.
August 21st The communityMuch lighter is this dark comedy with a touch of horror directed by Álex de la Iglesia 25 years ago, which returns to the big screen and was a resounding box office hit in its day. Starring a splendid Carmen Maura, the actress plays a real estate agent who finds a fortune in the apartment of a dead old man and decides to stash the money upstairs. However, the crazed neighbors—Terele Pávez, Emilio Gutiérrez Caba, and company—will do everything possible to detain her and keep the loot.
August 14 Dangerous animalsGoing on vacation to Australia sounds idyllic. But it can be very dangerous. There's a guy with a boat who takes tourists shark-watching. He seems like a friendly sailor, but he's actually a very crazy serial killer whose modus operandi consists of submerging his victims, usually young and beautiful girls, in the water, letting the sharks devour them, and recording the whole thing on a VHS tape. Until one day, the psychopath stumbles upon Zephyr, a blonde surfer played by Hassie Harrison, who is unfazed. The girl fights off the crazy sailor with the help of a young man in love in this Australian film directed by Sean Byrne, which boasts many of the genre's ingredients.
August 22 Great White Shark: The Beast of the SeaSharks in Australia are a goldmine for horror film writers. Great White Shark: Beast from the Sea , the umpteenth sequel in the Great White Shark series, dives into the crystalline waters of the southern hemisphere during World War II. It turns out that a group of soldiers are stranded on a drifting boat and, as if trying to survive weren't enough, they have to face a terrifying shark. Directed by Kiah Roache-Turner, an Australian filmmaker known for his fondness for gore.
August 29 SharkThere's no such thing as two without three. And in this case, we have to take our hats off to the great Steven Spielberg, who pioneered the idea of swimming in the sea as a risky exercise. The director shot Jaws in 1975. Now, it's a classic that's returning to the big screen to celebrate its half-century of existence. A great opportunity to see this legendary film in theaters, starring Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, and Richard Dreyfuss.

The cinematic duo of Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who play paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, brings the juicy saga to a close with this fourth installment, which takes the protagonists to the home of a family that has been experiencing strange events for some time. The culprit is the first demon the Warrens ever faced in their early days. The franchise, based on real cases investigated by the real Ed and Lorraine, has grossed over $2 billion worldwide.
August 22 Bambi: The RevengeThe idea that sharks are scary is quite understandable. But for a cute little fawn to turn into a killing machine seems almost impossible. It isn't. The folks at Twisted Childhood Universe, who specialize in creating terrifying versions of children's characters, present a Bambi determined to avenge his mother's death by killing everyone in his path and leaving a trail of blood behind him. Dan Allen directs this film, which has garnered critical acclaim.
July 18 I know what you did last summerIt's been many, many summers since a group of young people made a mistake and someone tried to make them pay for it. The I Know What You Did Last Summer saga began in 1997, has spawned several sequels, and was even turned into a television series. Now, this new installment, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, hits the big screen. It tells the story of a group of kids who cause a fatal accident and agree to keep quiet about it, only for their past to come back to haunt them a year later. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prince Jr. return as Julie and Ray.
September 26 Strangers: Chapter 2After a first installment that received a rather lukewarm reception from audiences and critics alike, Finnish director Renny Harlin sets out to tell more stories about violent masked strangers who attack couples in the middle of the night, combining elements of slasher and home invasion . A third and final installment is pending release, with Madelaine Petsch again leading the cast.
