At just 50 years old, Preta Gil , a Brazilian artist and daughter of singer-songwriter Gilberto Gil , died this Sunday. Her death occurred in the United States, where she had been treated for cancer for several months, which had weakened her health in recent months, Efe reports.

The cancer was detected in her intestine in January 2023, and she has since undergone numerous chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments, which have helped, but last year it was discovered that it had spread to other organs.

In addition to his dedication to music, he also hosted television programs and acted in several soap operas, as well as maintaining a lively carnival band known as 'Bloco da Preta' .

Gil, 83, one of Brazil's most versatile singer-songwriters, began what he has announced is his final tour last March. The tour includes concerts in nine Brazilian cities and is expected to conclude next November.

In some of them, she even sang with Preta, before the progression of her illness forced her to seek treatment in the United States.
