An Argentine police officer, identified as Cristian Martín Galván, decided to celebrate his wedding just a few meters from the Lonquimay police station and arranged for four inmates to work on the ceremony.
The news was reported by El Diario de La Pampa, which reported that the detainees were taken by the uniformed officer to the event venue, where they had to cook, serve guests, and clean the party hall.

Once the inmates finished cleaning, the officer sent them on their own . Although none of them escaped, Galván was sentenced to one year and three months in prison for abuse of authority.
The officer was also suspended for double his sentence, as he attempted to review the security cameras at the location where the event took place and those at the police station, but they failed to work.
According to the report, this suspicious error prevented facility employees from seeing inmates leaving and entering the prison on the day of the wedding. Furthermore, it was also impossible to collect evidence about the functions they performed there.
For his part, the prosecutor in charge of the case, Guillermo Sancho, noted that some inmates made several rounds throughout the day , and that one of them was also in charge of preparing the roast lamb offered at the ceremony.

The police officer's defense argued that the officer was on marriage leave on the day the events occurred , and therefore was not exercising any authority.
However, the judge dismissed the lawyer's statements, emphasizing that the agent cannot lose his civil servant status whenever he wants, nor retain it whenever it suits him.

"He was lucky that none of them escaped," the prosecutor said during the trial, in which he also pointed out that the prisoners did not commit any crime, as they were merely following orders, despite the opportunity they had to escape.
Sancho also explained that it doesn't matter whether he released six or four detainees, but rather the truly serious matter is that Galván failed to fulfill his duties as a police officer and endangered the community.
