Azuquita, the inventor of the 'rumbakalao', dies

Valencian singer Pedro Bermúdez, known artistically as Azuquita , died this Friday at the age of 47 in Palma de Mallorca, where he lived, without any known cause. The member of Rumba Kings was one of the most unique figures in 1990s music thanks to his invention of the 'rumbakalao', which fused Spanish rumba with bakalao .
Her rise to fame came in 1993 with a rumba version of Chimo Bayo's hit 'Así me gusta a mí', and between 1994 and 1997 she released three albums: 'Rumbakalao', 'Escucha que te digo' and 'Sinelo Kalo', the latter with a version of 'Gangsta's Paradise' under the title 'Rejas de cristal' which became very popular.
Over the years, she took a further step in her career, collaborating with German singer Matthias Reim on a bilingual version of "Verdammt ich lieb dich," which opened the doors to her international stage.
Until recently, he was still active as a member of the Rumba Kings, performing in hotels, venues, and local festivals in Mallorca. His wake will take place on Saturday at the Son Valentí funeral home, where his loved ones can pay their final respects.
