A new surge of Arctic air will move across much of the United States this weekend, bringing a marked drop in temperatures, scattered snowfall, and wintry wind chills from the Plains to the Atlantic coast.

According to CNN meteorologist Mary Gilbert, the cold front will allow a mass of Arctic air to move from the northern part of the continent to the southern states . "It will be the first real taste of winter for millions," explained the specialist, who detailed that temperatures will drop between 10°F and 15°F (5°C and 8°C) below the usual average across almost all of the territory east of the Rocky Mountains by Sunday night.

Cold air, pushed by a low-pressure area from Canada, will cause temperatures to drop by as much as 20°F (11°C) between Friday and Monday in cities near the Great Lakes.
