Rain will continue to be a factor, and Aemet warns: orange alert for severe storms in these areas of Spain

The unstable weather continues unabated in Spain. Those who thought summer would bring a respite from the rain were wrong. This Thursday, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) sounded the alarm again, issuing warnings for a total of 13 provinces, five of them below the orange level, implying a significant risk of heavy rain and storms. The skies have another rainy day in store, especially in the east and southeast of the peninsula, as well as the Balearic Islands.

The areas that will be most concerned today are Barcelona and Tarragona in Catalonia, and Albacete and Cuenca in Castilla-La Mancha. In these provinces, forecasts point to significant rain and storms , which could leave significant accumulations. But the list of areas with important warnings doesn't end there. In the Balearic Islands , specifically Ibiza and Formentera , the orange alert also extends to waves , which are expected to be quite strong, adding to the aforementioned rain and storms.

Meteorological instability is spreading like an oil slick across Spain. The Valencian Community, led by Alicante, Castellón, and Valencia , is preparing for rainfall and storms that, while not reaching the orange level, warrant the activation of warnings. The same is happening in various Murcia regions such as the Altiplano, the Northwest, Vega del Segura and Guadalentín Valley, as well as Lorca and Águilas.

Northeastern Catalonia, including Girona , and the Balearic island of Mallorca , are also in the spotlight for these inclement weather. Finally, Almería and Granada , in Andalusia, complete this list of areas where water will be the focus.

But coastal phenomena aren't limited to rain alone. The sea will also play its part. In addition to Ibiza and Formentera, waves will be a factor to consider on the Alicante coast, the Murcia coast (Guadalentín Valley, Lorca and Águilas-Costa, and Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón-Costa), in Girona , and on the islands of Mallorca and Menorca . For beachgoers, caution is the best ally.

Meanwhile, in the south and west of the Iberian Peninsula, the sun will remain largely sunny. In Córdoba and Jaén, high temperatures will be the most significant warning, confirming that the heat is still present in some regions. And in the Canary Islands, the winds are taking center stage: gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour are expected in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and Tenerife , reflecting the trade winds that characterize the archipelago.

The cause of this situation is a low-pressure system that has positioned itself over the northern and eastern thirds of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. This will generate cloudy or overcast skies and widespread rainfall. The AEMET (Spanish Meteorological Agency) emphasizes that these rains will be more intense and will be accompanied by thunderstorms , and even occasional hail , especially in the Balearic Islands and on the eastern and southeastern sides of the Iberian Peninsula. The concern is that they could be heavy, and even locally very heavy , which could lead to significant accumulations of water.

On the other hand, the rest of the Peninsula will enjoy greater stability, with generally clear skies, although with some cloudy periods in the east and the Alboran Mountains. In the Canary Islands, the northern part of the islands will see cloudy skies with light precipitation, while the south will remain clearer. We may also see some fog banks in the north of the Peninsula and, at the end of the day, in high areas of the extreme southeast. A light haze is even expected in Melilla and the Balearic Islands.

As for thermometers, maximum temperatures will rise in the far west of the peninsula, while there will be little change in the Canary Islands. The drop will be noticeable in the Balearic Islands and much of the eastern and southeastern parts of the peninsula, where the drops could even be extraordinary.

Despite this, low temperatures in the southwest of the peninsula could exceed 34-36°C , and even 38°C in the Upper Guadalquivir . Minimum temperatures, meanwhile, will rise in the southwest, fall in the northeast and the Balearic Islands, and remain stable elsewhere. They will not fall below 20-22°C in the Mediterranean and in the low temperatures in the southwest.
