Mexico vs. Honduras: Schedule and where to watch the 2025 Gold Cup semifinals

El Tri travels to California in search of a ticket to the grand final of the 2025 Gold Cup, the last official tournament they will play before opening the World Cup in Mexico, the United States and Canada in the summer of 2026. Javier Aguirre's team made it to the semifinals after beating Saudi Arabia (2-0) in a match in which, despite dominating the match, they once again lacked decisiveness in front of the opposing goal. A rebound goal by Alexis Vega , the best Mexican player of the last semester, and an own goal ten minutes from time defined El Tri's path to the semifinals.
Facing them will be Honduras, a team that righted its path after a shocking 6-0 defeat to Canada and moved into the tournament's top four after defeating Panama in a dramatic penalty shootout. In addition to revalidating its status as regional champion, El Tri must improve its team performance and, above all, its effectiveness in front of goal. Against Saudi Arabia, however, Aguirre made a move and surprised everyone by including midfielder Gilberto Mora, the jewel of Xolos de Tijuana, in his starting lineup. At 16, he became the youngest player to debut for El Tri in an official match.
The match against Honduras is, at most, the national team's penultimate official match before opening the 2026 World Cup at the Azteca Stadium with an opponent yet to be determined. Hence Aguirre's urgency to experiment with options and define the backbone that will compete in the friendlies leading up to the World Cup. In a press conference prior to the semifinals, the coach sent a message to his players, stating that no one is certain on the 26-man squad for next year's World Cup.
What time does Mexico play against Honduras? The semifinal match will be played on Wednesday, July 2, at 8:00 p.m. (Mexico time) at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and can be followed live on Channel 5 (Televisa) and the ViX streaming service. If El Tri and Honduras remain tied after the 90 minutes of regulation, the spot in the final will be decided in overtime. If the tie persists, the winner will be decided in a penalty shootout.
In the other bracket, the host United States will face Costa Rica for a spot in the grand final. The 2025 Gold Cup champion will be decided on Sunday, July 6, at 5:00 PM at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
