Iran makes resumption of nuclear talks conditional on US guarantees after attacks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi ruled out an early resumption of nuclear negotiations with the United States, as suggested by US President Donald Trump following the war with Israel.
"I don't think negotiations will resume so quickly," Araqchí said Tuesday in an interview with CBS.
"For us to decide to resume negotiations, we will first have to ensure that the United States will not attack us militarily again during the negotiations," he said.

“And I think with all these considerations, we still need more time,” he added.
Despite all this, the Iranian top diplomat said that "the doors of diplomacy will never be slammed shut."
At the same time, Araqchi assured that Iran will defend itself if it suffers further attacks.
"We have shown and demonstrated during this 12-day imposed war that we have the capacity to defend ourselves, and we will continue to do so should any aggression be launched against us," he stated.
Iran and the United States began indirect negotiations on Iran's nuclear program on April 12. Five rounds of talks have been held, sponsored by Oman, amid significant disagreements over Iran's uranium enrichment, which Washington wants to halt.
Those negotiations have been stalled since Israel launched a military offensive against Iran on June 13, sparking a 12-day war that ended with a ceasefire announced by Trump.

During the conflict, the United States bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities - Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.
At least 935 people, including 38 children, have died in the war in Iran and 28 in Israel.
