Chetumal celebrates the traditional “Janal Pixan 2025” with identity and culture

With the purpose of preserving the traditions and customs that strengthen the cultural identity of Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, accompanied by the honorary president of the Quintana Roo DIF System, Verónica Lezama Espinosa, led the celebrations of “Janal Pixan 2025: Living Tradition”, together with hundreds of families, visitors and tourists.
The activities began with the traditional Procession of Souls with more than 2,000 people, which started from the State Congress and ended in the Civic Plaza of the Government Palace, with the participation of students, general citizens, volunteers, authorities of the Quintana Roo DIF, state agencies and the Othón P. Blanco City Council.
Later, activities included a prayer in the Mayan language led by María Luisa Pat Pool, a performance by the ICA Folkloric Ballet, an exhibition of altars representing the 32 states of the country made by staff from various departments, and a tasting of typical seasonal dishes.
During her tour of the stands, Governor Mara Lezama interacted with families, listened to citizens, and shared with them the joy of this event full of identity, culture, and tradition.
“These cultural expressions strengthen our sense of belonging and our Quintana Roo roots. In this humanist government with a feminist heart, we celebrate our traditions with pride and with the firm commitment to keep them alive in new generations,” the governor stated.
He also emphasized that Janal Pixan promotes coexistence, closeness, and family unity by paying tribute to those who have gone before us but remain alive in the memory and hearts of their families.
For her part, the honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo, Verónica Lezama Espinosa, highlighted that these types of activities strengthen the values of coexistence, respect and family unity, while promoting the rootedness and cultural identity of the state.
“Let us continue to enjoy and live together in this celebration that shows us that we are one, from north to south, human beings helping other human beings,” he expressed.
In welcoming everyone, President Yensunni Martínez Hernández stated that our Mayan culture is an invaluable heritage and preserving this tradition is keeping our history alive and strengthening our sense of belonging.
The Janal Pixan 2025 will continue with cultural and artistic activities on October 30 and 31, as well as November 1 and 2, from 7:00 to 10:00 at night, in the Civic Plaza of the Government Palace, where families can continue to enjoy this great festival of tradition, color and spirituality.
