Aemet warns of the return of extreme heat of more than 40 degrees after the storm

The storm that devastated parts of Aragon , Catalonia, and other parts of the northeastern peninsula has just bid farewell to Spain. After a weekend marked by rain and storms , leaving flooding and destruction in many provinces, the instability will give way to a week marked mostly by heat .

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in its latest forecast, we will experience a new "rise in temperatures" across much of the Iberian Peninsula in the coming days. Temperatures at the beginning of this week "will be above the normal average for this time of year," and only the western third will be spared this extreme heat .

Unlike previous days, rainfall will be light these days, although we could still see some storms in mountainous areas of the Peninsula. In the rest of Spain, the anticyclone will dominate, bringing dry and stable days to almost the entire country.

We've reached the dog days, the period that spans the second half of July and the first half of August, which is typically the hottest period of the year in our country. → What do we expect for the dog days of 2025? 🤔 Prediction for the next three weeks 👉 https://t.co/Pui3hr2a0W

Extreme heat returns: areas of Spain with temperatures over 40 degrees

The extreme heat of summer returns to Spain, coinciding with the start of the dog days, with a new "rise in temperatures" after a few days of thermal relief due to the "daná" (a windy day). According to Aemet (National Meteorological Agency), it will be a warm week, with temperatures between one and three degrees above normal in many parts of the peninsula.

In the coming days, we will see the dreaded 40 degrees Celsius again in some parts of the country throughout the week, and only the Cantabrian Sea and the Ebro Valley will be spared these high temperatures due to a front that will cause temperatures to drop.

This Monday, temperatures will reach 32 to 34°C in the northern plateau and Ebro Valley, while in the center and south of the Iberian Peninsula, they will remain above 35°C . The warmest region will once again be the Guadalquivir Valley , where temperatures could reach above 40°C over the next few days.

Tuesday will be an even warmer day, with temperatures rising across much of the country. Temperatures of 40 to 42°C will be recorded in the Tagus, Guadiana, and Guadalquivir valleys , while minimum temperatures will also be very high, reaching over 20 to 22°C in many places.

It will continue to rain in some parts of Spain.

Although the week will be fairly dry, we will continue to have "abundant cloud cover" on Monday and Tuesday in the Cantabrian Mountains and the Pyrenees. We will see light rain in parts of the Basque Country and the Pyrenees , as well as in the Iberian System , where we will see locally heavy rainfall , although it will be more isolated.

Starting Wednesday, the weather will further stabilize, leading to a much drier and more stable day for much of Spain. We only expect some precipitation in the Iberian System and inland Catalonia in the afternoon, and on Thursday in lower Aragon and parts of Catalonia.
