A man was shot dead by police in Linares (Jaén) after shooting at passersby and injuring one person.

A man has died after being shot dead by police in Linares ( Jaén ) after opening fire with a shotgun on pedestrians, injuring one person who had to be taken to hospital.

According to the National Police , at 10:09 p.m. this Thursday, the Linares Local Police received a call alerting them of an individual carrying a long-barreled weapon and firing shots at pedestrians in an area far from the city center. Specifically, the call reported a vacant lot located near the La Paz neighborhood.

As a result of these shots, one person was injured and had to be taken to the San Agustín Hospital in Linares.

Both local and national police officers immediately arrived on the scene. The officers activated the appropriate protocol for this type of high-risk situation and implemented appropriate measures to control the situation and attempt, without success, to get him to stop his behavior.

During the police intervention, the attacker was seriously injured and, despite medical efforts, died.

The corresponding investigation has been initiated to clarify what happened , and is being handled by the National Police.
