A chaotic ICE raid in Chinatown sparks anger among New Yorkers.

Federal authorities reported that nine people were arrested in the operation against informal vendors.
An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid on street vendors in Chinatown, New York, resulted in chaos and clashes with officers on Thursday. Protesters surrounded the officers and confronted them, chanting slogans against the arrests of the vendors.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that ICE arrested nine people during the operation on Canal Street, focused on what it called "criminal activity related to the sale of counterfeit goods." The statement described the arrestees' criminal histories, including theft, domestic violence, assault on law enforcement officers, forgery, drug trafficking, and counterfeiting.
Several flyers appeared at the scene of the raid on Friday, encouraging anyone at risk of arrest to move to a non-public space, such as a church, office, or apartment, noting that officers need a warrant to make an arrest when someone is no longer in public. The flyer also included the phone number of an immigration advocacy hotline.
