A 12-year-old boy died this Tuesday after falling from a height of 20 meters in a rocky area of Cotolino , in the municipality of Castro Urdiales , Cantabria .
The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m., when the 112 Emergency Center received a call alerting them that a child, a resident of the Basque Country , had fallen off a cliff while playing with a friend.
Local police officers, the Castro Urdiales Fire Department and 112, along with agents from the Civil Guard and Maritime Rescue , who deployed their helicopter to assist in the rescue , were dispatched to the scene of the accident.
The minor, who suffered severe chest trauma , was evacuated by Maritime Rescue helicopter to the airport, from where he was transferred in a mobile intensive care unit to Valdecilla Hospital . There, despite medical efforts, he suffered a cardiac arrest that proved fatal .
