Werder sells striker Ducksch to Birmingham City

After four years, Marvin Ducksch is leaving Bremen this summer. The 31-year-old described Werder Bremen as a "special chapter in my career."

Werder Bremen confirmed today, Thursday, that they have agreed on a transfer with Birmingham City. According to Kicker, the Bremen club will receive €2 million for Ducksch. This sum could increase in the future due to potential bonuses. Ducksch's contract with Werder Bremen runs until the summer of 2026.

The striker joined the Weser region from Hannover 96 in late summer 2021 at the request of then-head coach Markus Anfang. He was promoted to the Bundesliga with Bremen in the summer of 2022 and formed a strike partnership with Niclas Füllkrug for two years. In the fall of 2023, Ducksch made the jump to the German national team, for which he made two appearances. However, he missed out on his hoped-for participation in the 2024 European Championship.

"Marvin has played a decisive role in Werder Bremen's re-establishment in the Bundesliga in recent years," says Werder's sporting director Peter Niemeyer. "With his quality and goal scoring, he was an important factor in the team and a reliable performer."

Ducksch scored 20 goals in 29 matches for Bremen in the 2021/22 promotion season. He scored 32 goals in 99 Bundesliga appearances. "Werder was a special chapter in my career, one I will always look back on fondly," Ducksch said in his farewell speech. "Now I've decided to take on a new challenge, which I'm very much looking forward to." He will play in England's second division with Birmingham City.
