NBA champions Boston Celtics have their backs against the wall in their playoff series against the New York Knicks. Already down 2-0, the team is now making an impressive comeback. The Golden State Warriors are struggling without superstar Curry.
The Boston Celtics made an impressive comeback in the NBA playoff quarterfinals. After two home losses, the defending champions won Game 3 at the New York Knicks 115-93, cutting the best-of-seven series to 1-2. The Minnesota Timberwolves took a 2-1 lead in their series against the Golden State Warriors with a 102-97 victory over the Californians.
After the Celtics had blown 20-point leads in each of their first two games against the Knicks, Jayson Tatum and Co. didn't let anything slip away this time. Boston was already ahead by more than 20 points at the start of the second quarter, but the Knicks were unable to come back.
"Understood the importance of this game""We understood the importance of this game. I didn't like how we felt after the last game, so we came here with the right attitude and tried to get everything going," Tatum said, adding, "We can't get caught up in the emotional rollercoaster of the playoffs. With our core group, we have a lot of experience, we've been through a lot of different situations, so we just wanted to stick together and try to figure something out."
Payton Pritchard was the record champion's top scorer with 23 points, while Tatum contributed 22. German rookie Ariel Hukporti entered the game in the final period for the Knicks, who had eliminated the Detroit Pistons with Dennis Schröder in the first round, and scored two points in two minutes.
Without Curry, things don't work out for the WarriorsThe fourth matchup is scheduled for Tuesday night, also at New York's Madison Square Garden, and the Celtics could then equalize. However, the statistics are against Boston: Only five teams have managed to win an NBA playoff series after losing their first two home games.
The Wolves took control of the Warriors, who were still without Stephen Curry due to a thigh injury, in the final period and pulled away decisively. Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was Man of the Match with 36 points, while Jimmy Butler (33 points) and Jonathan Kuminga (30 points) kept Golden State in the game for much of the game.
