The next long-range shot! Svanberg receives the ball from the left centrally on the edge of the penalty area. He fires, and Zentner parries brilliantly for a corner, which again goes unanswered.

Koulierakis has far too much space in front of the box and has a clear shot from just 18 meters out. Da Costa gets his leg in the way and clears for a corner, which remains harmless.

FSV is working on an equalizer, but is struggling against Wolfsburg's defense, which is very solid and allows virtually nothing.

Mainz's best chance of the second half! Amiri shoots from the left-hand side and aims for the bottom left corner. Arnold, however, gets in the way and prevents the shot. The resulting corner poses no threat.

Currently, the game is taking place primarily in the home side's half. However, the visitors are still lacking that final bite in attack. Even though they haven't had a shot on goal in the second half, an equalizer would be deserved.

Halftime summary: VfL Wolfsburg lead 1-0 against 1. FSV Mainz 05 at the break. Mainz were on the attack from the start, putting the Wolfsburg defense under pressure early on. However, the hosts took an early lead with their first offensive foray. The visitors didn't let their heads hang and continued to attack early. While neither side created any clear chances, it was still an entertaining game with a high pace. Overall, the match was fairly evenly matched, with both teams on equal terms.

Nordin comes in at speed down the right flank and tries to cut inside. Zehntner is alert and parries him so skillfully that the Lower Saxony side are awarded a goal kick.

Things are currently very quiet on the pitch, with much of the action taking place in midfield. The Zero Fivers have now retreated somewhat and are no longer attacking as early as they did in the beginning.

About half an hour has passed, and Mainz are putting on a decent away performance so far. The visitors are more active and aggressive than Wolfsburg. While there are hardly any big chances, the overall pace of the game is quite high.

Great move! Pejčinović runs into the penalty area on the left and manages to get past Sano. He takes a low shot from a very tight angle and tries to push the ball into the far corner. The ball rolls out of play, just wide of the post.

Amiri tries from distance, but his shot from just under 20 meters only earns a corner. Amiri delivers it from the right to the center of the box, and Kohr heads the ball. However, he doesn't get enough power behind the ball, and Grabara holds onto it.

After a mid-air challenge with Wimmer, da Costa falls awkwardly on his elbow and has to be treated on the field. After a short break, he's back on his feet and likely able to continue.

Caci comes down the right wing and plays the ball low to the near post. Lee puts his foot out there, but can't get the ball on target.

The visitors are already attacking in the opposing penalty area, giving Wolfsburg little respite. They are pushing hard and aim to penetrate the box with quick, fast attacks.

The lead comes as something of a surprise, as it was the Wolves' first offensive foray. Mainz tried to respond, and Weiper got to the byline on the right. However, his pass into the center was intercepted.

In front of the box, he plays the ball to the left and finds Zehnter. He shoots from around 20 meters, but his shot is deflected unstoppably by Caci.

Wolfsburg have had more possession so far and have shifted the play into Wolfsburg's half. The hosts are still struggling to find their footing and are being put under pressure by the visitors early on.

In the first few minutes, both teams were still feeling each other out. Mainz tried long, high balls up front, but the Wolves were able to intercept them without any problems.

Kilian Fischer will play his 50th Bundesliga game today, and Robin Zentner his 200th. Dominik Kohr could also celebrate a milestone today. The Mainz player has received 99 yellow cards in the Bundesliga so far and would join the club of 100s if he receives a yellow card. Currently, only Stefan Effenberg, who has received a total of 111 yellow cards in Germany's top flight, is in that category.

Bo Henriksen will be without Benedict Hollerbach today, who was signed as a replacement for national team striker Jonathan Burkhardt. The attacker sustained a muscle injury in his left thigh against Cologne and is out indefinitely. Paul Nebel, recently nominated for the German national team, is also out after receiving a red card against the Cologne club. He has been suspended for two matches for his foul. They will be replaced by Nordin and Weiper. Bell will also start for Hanche-Olsen.

Paul Simonis makes no changes to his starting lineup compared to the match against Heidenheim, fielding the same eleven as last week. New signing Kumbedi is not yet in the squad today. Lindstrøm, Paredes, Rogério, and Vavro are also out injured.

Mainz are also in the second round of the DFB-Pokal, but struggled against second-division side Dynamo Dresden, narrowly winning 1-0. Things went better for head coach Bo Henriksen's team in the Conference League playoffs, however. They lost the first leg against Rosenborg Trondheim 2-1, but pulled off a convincing comeback in the return leg, beating the Norwegian club 4-1 last Thursday and thus qualifying for European play this season. Mainz suffered a setback in their opening Bundesliga campaign, losing to 1. FC Köln after Marius Bülter gave Cologne a 1-0 lead shortly before full-time.

VfL Wolfsburg got off to a good start to the season, advancing to the second round of the DFB-Pokal after a 9-0 victory over Oberliga side SV Hemelingen. Head coach Paul Simonis's team also picked up a win in their Bundesliga opener, beating 1. FC Heidenheim 3-1. Nevertheless, the Wolves strengthened their defense again during the week. The Lower Saxony club signed right-back Saël Kumbedi. The 20-year-old Frenchman has joined on a one-year loan from French first-division side Olympique Lyon.
