- Kick-off on the Isar! The Munich team will be wearing all red. The visitors from Saxony will be dressed entirely in white. Let's go.
- Incidentally, Bayern and the Red Bulls have already faced each other 18 times in the Bundesliga, with the Munich team only losing to the Saxons twice (nine wins, seven draws). In their last home game to date, FCB handed Leipzig their joint-heaviest Bundesliga defeat in club history, thrashing RBL 5-1 in Munich in December 2024. The return match in Leipzig ended in a 3-3 draw at the beginning of May.
- Under Vincent Kompany, the German record champions were known for their thrilling, dominant, and at times uncompromising attacking style of football last season. The Reds averaged 19 shots per Bundesliga game. In Europe's top five leagues, this was the undisputed best figure in 2024/25, ahead of the forward lines of Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, and even Liverpool.
- RB Leipzig has won only one of its last ten Bundesliga away games (five draws, four losses) and failed to score in six of its last seven away games. However, the season change has somewhat reset the clock. Meanwhile, the Saxons can build on their defensive compactness. RBL kept a proud 16 clean sheets in the Bundesliga in the 2024/25 season – only Bayern Munich have kept more clean sheets across the league (16).
- FC Bayern Munich is certainly not known for false starts. The Reds have remained unbeaten on the first matchday of a new season for 13 Bundesliga seasons (eleven wins, two draws). This is a current Bundesliga record. Their last opening defeat came in August 2011 against Borussia Mönchengladbach (0-1).
- Ole Werner made his debut on the RB Leipzig coaching bench in the 4-2 DFB Cup away win against SV Sandhausen. The 37-year-old made two changes from that match: Péter Gulácsi returned to the starting lineup in goal, replacing cup keeper Maarten Vandevoordt (bench). New signing Johan Bakayoko, who joined from PSV Eindhoven, was preferred to Antonio Nusa (also bench).
- Let's take a look at how both coaches approach the squad today. Vincent Kompany is making no changes to his starting lineup compared to the 2-1 Supercup victory against VfB Stuttgart, fielding the same eleven from the start.
- While Bayern secured the championship, RB Leipzig failed to qualify for European competition for the first time in the club's history. With just 51 points, the Saxon club endured the weakest Bundesliga season in their young history and are looking to challenge for the top spot again in the new season. An opening victory against the title favorites on the Isar River would naturally be a particularly good fit for the Red Bulls.
- Good evening and welcome from the Allianz Arena. FC Bayern Munich will host RB Leipzig this evening at 8:30 p.m. in the opening match of the 63rd Bundesliga season.
