Alex Zverev will not be coached by Rafael Nadal's legendary uncle Toni after all.

Alexander Zverev has ended his stint at Rafael Nadal's academy. According to media reports, Rafael Nadal's uncle will not be his new coach.

The world number three, who was recently eliminated in the first round of Wimbledon, had spent some time training at the academy after his vacation. This had fueled rumors of a future collaboration with Toni Nadal. It was also reported that long-time world number one Rafael Nadal could act as an advisor.

In a video released by the Rafa Nadal Academy on Tuesday, Zverev did not comment on the coaching question. "It was very nice, a very good week," the 2021 Olympic champion said in the video. He "received a lot of help from Toni and also Rafa. It was fantastic to see them both again," the 28-year-old said. "I enjoyed my time here and I'm ready to travel to the USA now."

The hard court season in North America now begins, with the US Open in New York as the highlight, starting on August 24. Zverev is seeded number one at the Masters tournament in Toronto, which begins at the end of this week, following the withdrawals of several top players.
