Fijian professional rugby player Josaia Raisuqe has died. This was announced by his French club, Castres Olympique. Raisuqe, who won silver with Fiji at the Paris Olympic Games last summer, died in a traffic accident in southwest France. He was 30 years old.

"We are in shock following Josaia's sudden death," said Castres president Pierre-Yves Revol, describing Raisuqe as a "radiant boy on and off the field" and "a pillar of the Fijian community we have at the club." The Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR) also expressed its "deepest sympathy" and postponed Saturday's league match against ASM Clermont Auvergne by two weeks to May 24. Raisuqe will be remembered at the weekend's other matches.

According to media reports, the 30-year-old's car was hit by a train on Thursday morning; there were no other casualties. Raisuqe had played seven times for Castres this season, most recently in the 52-6 victory against Toulouse on April 27. At the Olympic Games in Paris, he won a surprise silver medal with the Fijian national team in rugby sevens – the island nation's only medal. It was only Fiji's fourth Olympic medal ever.
