Expectations are certainly high for national coach Christian Wück's team – after all, Germany is traditionally considered one of the favorites. However, since its last European Championship triumph in 2013 and its Olympic victory in 2016, the national team has experienced a few turbulent years. This was followed by changes in the coaching bench, sporting setbacks – and the effort to return to former glory. However, the current squad combines experience with promising talent, and Germany is internationally competitive, especially in attack: players like Klara Bühl, Jule Brand, Lea Schüller, and defensive leader Giulia Gwinn are among the crème de la crème of Europe.

Poland only qualified late through the playoffs – a feat in which star striker Ewa Pajor in particular made the difference and led the team to the finals.

The match in St. Gallen not only marks the European Championship debut of the Polish women's national team , but also provides a grand showcase for one of Europe's best strikers. The 28-year-old Pajor is to the Polish national team what Robert Lewandowski is to the men's team: a role model, captain, and goalscorer.

Poland will play in Group C at the 2025 Women's European Football Championship.

Like her prominent compatriot, Pajor now plays for FC Barcelona . Before that, she, like Lewandowski, caused a stir in the Bundesliga for years: 137 goals in 195 matches, plus five league titles and nine cup wins, are her stats for VfL Wolfsburg . Therefore, she knows many of the German national team's players very well.
