3:00 p.m.: Welcome to the FOCUS online live ticker. After their 3-2 opening victory against France, the men's team managed a 1-1 draw against England in a rematch of the World Cup final on Sunday and are likely to book their place in the semifinals with a win against Poland on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.).
The team demonstrated great comeback quality, coming back from a 1-0 deficit in front of 8,200 enthusiastic spectators at Mönchengladbach's Hockey Park. Corner specialist Gonzalo Peillat scored again (52'), saving his team a crucial point. "That was one of the best games we've played against England. We had significantly more chances," said national coach André Henning. "But with a bit more luck, it could have been a clear victory for us."
"Normally, you prefer to win your anniversary games, but we're happy with the draw," said striker Thies Prinz, who made his 100th international appearance for the DHB team. This puts the semifinals within reach. "We haven't played against Poland in a long time. But there must be a reason why they're here. I'm confident it can be a good result. Then first place is definitely within reach," said the 27-year-old attacker.
