Former German national soccer player Dzsenifer Marozsán is continuing her career in Saudi Arabia . The 33-year-old, who won the 2013 European Championship and the 2016 Olympic gold medal for Germany, is moving to Al-Qadsiah WFC in the Saudi Women's Premier League, founded in 2022. It had been a given for some time that Marozsán would leave her previous club, Olympique Lyon, after nine years. Before moving to France, she won numerous titles with 1. FFC Frankfurt.
"From the top of Europe to the heart of Al-Khobar. I'm ready," Marozsán said in a video posted on social media by her new club. The club did not disclose the length of her contract. The midfielder, who ended her German national team career two years ago after 112 caps , will wear the number 66. At Al-Qadsiah, she will face Icelandic Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir, with whom she played for Champions League record winners Lyon. Al-Qadsiah finished third last season.
Marozsán is one of only a few European female players currently playing in Saudi Arabia. The desert state, which has been criticized for its human rights record and discrimination against women and will host the 2034 Men's World Cup, has recently attracted numerous male professionals with lucrative contracts.
